Dr. King summed it up best when he stated that a true education was one that combines intelligence and the need for character. Whatever it is that is your passion – human rights, animal safety, a cleaner environment – it will take your intensive and critical thinking to decide the best way forward towards action.

In this instance, I’d like to compare this quote with people I know who rescue animals. They have the right character to travel, to stay up late nights, to help the wounded – whatever it takes to see these animals to a better life. But don’t kid yourselves, they are brilliant people too who have learned what they need to know to make every rescue a successful endeavor. They know these animals, their special needs, and probably one of the most amazing bits of intellect they’ve acquired is the ability to read the animal’s soul!
