I always feel like I’m blogging about such far away places for most of my readers in the Western world. Well, here’s a story right in America’s backyard – Los Angeles, California. The Garment Worker Center (GWC) in LA is a rights organization organizing low-wage garment workers in the fight for social and economic justice in their industry.
They’re taking on problems like wage theft happening right here in the Good ‘Ol USofA. They also educate over unhealthy and unsafe working conditions, and even more importantly, they tackle the tough conversation of abusive and inhumane treatments of workers.
So, if you thought abuse, wage theft, and unfair practices only happen “somewhere overseas,” think again.
This Spring (May 18th), the GWC will host a runway party in LA – called a “SPRING CLEANING – WE’RE SAYING NO TO SWEATSHOP MADE CLOTHING AND YES TO SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS FASHION!”
Really hope I can find a reason to be out in LA at that time…sounds like a great event. Hat’s off to GWC
