Today is profound. Two people are being freed, who might have easily been killed. U S Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, just 28 years old, was handed over to American Special Operations forces this morning by the Taliban inside Afghanistan after being held for nearly five years. Sergeant Bergdahl was put aboard a helicopter in good condition and able to walk.
Also today, Sudanese officials are to free Meriam Ibrahim, a woman sentenced to death when she would not renounce her Christian faith after being accused of abandoning the Islamic faith of her father. Meriam actually gave birth to a new baby girl while in prison. Sudan has guaranteed her religious freedom and has finally committed to her protection. Khartoum had been facing international condemnation over her death sentence.
