Clutch – Airheads

Pronounced ‘Now-We Oh-Lean’, you had better learn how to pronounce it so that when people stop you and compliment your new little clutch, you can tell them all about it. Way ahead of the “green” trend, designer Olga Abadi established Nahui Ollin in 2003 to develop an eco-friendly alternative to the often-wasteful world of fashion accessories. Using an ancient Mayan binding technique, Nahui Ollin creates stylish handbags from recycled materials, including defective candy and gum wrappers. For each handbag, an individual artisan will bind up to 4,000 defective wrappers to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Tourists often see teenagers standing on the streets in Mexico selling similar bags to take home support to their family. Nahui Ollin invited the parents into family-friendly factories with day care centres on hand to learn to handcraft the bags. This keeps the youth in school where they should be learning and building their futures. Plus, it helps parents find a new way to sustain their families with dignity and enthusiasm. Helping families and saving the environment has never been so stylish!! This variety is made from distinctive Airheads wrappers.
