Today we have lost a legend. Not only a legend in music, but also in the fashion world. Prince, the eclectic artist whose style and outlandish behavior made him famous, has passed away at the mere age of 57. I remember driving to the grocery store with my mom belting out the lyrics of “Kiss” and “When Dove’s Cry” at the top of our lungs. Those times are some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood.
Even as an adult, Purple Rain is hands down one of my favorite albums to play on vinyl. The range that Prince was able to accomplish while singing, was what most could only dream of accomplishing.
The amount of heart and soul he put into his music and sense of fashion, is something to admire. He dared to be different in a time when colorful style and wearing makeup was frowned upon for men to be seen in.
We are lucky enough to now live in a world where such style and originality is welcome and even encouraged, in most cases.
We salute you Prince for all you’ve inspired and will continue to inspire in the years to come.
And this writer wants to personally thank you for making a little, outcast girl believe that being different isn’t something to be ashamed of, rather to embrace it.
