Mother’s Day in the United States
Mother’s Day in the United States is annually held on the second Sunday of May. It celebrates motherhood and it is time to appreciate mothers and mother figures. Many people send cards or gifts to their mother or mother figure or make a special effort to visit her. Common Mother’s Day gifts are flowers, chocolate, candy, clothing, jewelry and treats, such as a beauty treatment or trip to spa. Common families organize an outing for the family and friends or hold special meal at home or in restaurant.
Mother’s Day in other countries
While versions of Mother’s Day are celebrated throughout the world, traditions vary depending on the country. For example, in Thailand, Mother’s Day is always celebrated in August on the birthday of the current queen. In Arab world Mother’s Day is celebrated on March 21. It appeared first in Egypt in 1943 and then, other Arab countries adopted this holiday following the Egyptian practice. Different countries adopt this holiday depending on their most significant date for the nation and it is celebrated in different times. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!
Mama is my greatest teacher,
A teacher of compassion,
Love and fearlessness,
If love is sweet as a flower,
Then my mother is that sweet flower of love.
