During this past week a picture of a U.S. Army Cadet graduating from the U.S. Military Academy has gone viral. The picture is worth a million words. Newly commissioned 2nd Lt. Alix Idrache’s image speaks even louder when you learn a little more about the man. Alix is an immigrant from Haiti. His father brought him and the family to the United States in 2009. The family was looking for economic opportunity. In Alix’s tears I see hopes and dreams of the millions of Haitians stuck in perpetual poverty. Congratulations to this young man for stepping up and into his new position of responsibility. Whether he knows it or not, the image of his tears have made a statement for the voiceless in Haiti.
