Do You Think About Others?

blog do you think about others 2

The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is an ancient, well accepted rule for reciprocity. However, it comes up short for achieving success in business and in life. Success is not about you; it requires others. You need to help others reach their dreams if you want to reach yours. You need to connect to their memories, their desires. That means a rule like, “Do unto others as they would have you do unto them.”

The starting point for all happiness is shifting the focus away from yourself. If all you think about is yourself, you’re going to be empty inside and not knowing the true happiness of helping others. If you truly want to be happy in life, you have to care about the needs of those around you.

Most people are worrying about their own plans and aren’t looking out for the interests of others. Most people don’t get up in the morning and give their first thought to how someone else is doing. Unfortunately, most people are concerned with their own problems and forgetting about others that are in need.

To experience the true happiness, you have to shift your focus away from yourself to other people. That’s not something that comes naturally, so it’s something you have to learn to do.

Deeply, we know we have been designed to live for something greater than ourselves. Our contribution to this world has to be measured by something more meaningful than the size of our house or the neighborhood where it is located. And our lives are going to find lasting significance in how we choose to live them and how we enable others to live theirs.
