Next week we’ll finally know who the new President of the United States will be. Even though this has been a very tumultuous election season, I believe every eligible citizen should cast a vote. Remember, you don’t have to vote for the leading two candidates. Depending on what state you’re attached to, there are other candidates on the ballot. If you don’t want to vote for any of the listed candidates, write your own name on the ballot. It’s your right as an American, darn it! It’s your voice, use it!
Think of all the voiceless people who don’t have this opportunity. This includes the millions trafficked throughout the U.S. and the rest of the world. What if you thought about your vote from a totally different perspective? Think of your freedom to vote as a way to honor the voiceless. There’s no doubt in my mind a trafficking victim would value the simple freedoms we take for granted. So get out there and vote next week. For goodness sake, if you don’t like any of the candidates and don’t want to write your name on the ballot, feel free to write-in my name. Walter Matthews, 2016. I approved this message.
