Fashion Around the World, Country #2, Mysterious Albania

The Republic of Albania is a democratic and developing country, and a sovereign state in Southeastern Europe. Its population is just over 3 million. And to help you out with the geography, Albania is located in the south-western part of the Balkan peninsula, bordered by Montenegro (NW), Kosovo (NE), the Republic of Macedonia (E), and Greece (SSE). The country has coastlines on the Mediterranean Sea, the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, known as the Albanian Riviera.

Now for the good stuff! Albania is a mysterious country for most of us, as I don’t know many people who have vacationed there. However, it seems to be rich and exciting when it comes to fashion.

The first Albanian Fashion Week was actually held in New York just last year in the hopes that Eastern European fashion designers would have a platform in American and beyond. Believe me, only American women are the losers if we don’t soon get the opportunity to discover the unique looks that these designers offer. And then, of course there’s Designer Bora Balaj who has managed to combine the modern with the more traditional fashion of Albania.

There’s also a strong Network of bloggers called AFB – Albanian Fashion Bloggers who bring fashion news to readers daily from the capital streets of Tirana or all the way from New York. The Doll’s Factory blog out of Milan, Italy has highlighted Albanian fashion in full expose. The skinny of it is, Albanian fashion might just need to be seen up close and personal. Let’s just say that Albanian women put it altogether well from casual wear to high-end formal luxurious wear.
